Terry Ryan

Ryan

Fans of the hit comedy series Shoresy can’t wait for the loud, salty musings of Ted “Hitch” Hitchcock. He inspires and bewilders his Sudbury Bulldogs teammates with pearls of wisdom like: “Don’t slow down on the body b’ys, go straight to where they’re too” … or … “why don’t we stay to where we’re too, leave them where they’re at!” … or … post-game bar-room scene, raised martini glass in hand, smile on his face and, of course, missing tooth “thanks for the martoonie, hon” … Hitch is played in All-Star fashion by Terry Ryan. Like his character, Ryan hails from Mount Pearl, Newfoundland and he too was a former first round pick in the NHL. The Montreal Canadiens selected Ryan eighth overall in 1995. His NHL career covered eight games over three seasons as an ankle injury dashed his big-league aspirations. But there were many exciting stories to tell about his misadventures and so he authored a book in 2014 entitled “Tales of a First-Round Nothing … My Life as an NHL Footnote.” He competed in the minors and seniors until 2022 and even played one game with the ECHL Newfoundland Growlers on his 47th birthday in 2024. His life’s included ice hockey, ball hockey, author, stand-up comedian and, for many years now, screen time. Ryan began behind the scenes in production and even did stunts before working his way on camera to a growing number of shows, among them, Frontier, Republic of Doyle, Son of a Critch, Hudson & Rex, Letterkenny and, since 2022, the Letterkenny spinoff, Shoresy. One of Hitch’s lines is: “Let ’em know you’re out there b’ys, you gotta let ’em know!” That’s Terry Ryan – out there and a Shoresy fan favourite
