One of the world’s all-time greatest curlers retired from women’s team curling in February following her record 11th finals appearance in the Scotties Tournament of Hearts. Manitoba’s Jennifer Jones missed with her final shot in losing her goodbye match 5-4 to Ontario’s Rachel Homan. But Jones was afforded an emotional standing ovation nonetheless as the sold-out crowd in Calgary let her know that her curling legacy will last forever.

She left women’s curling tied with Nova Scotia’s Colleen Jones for most Scotties Tournament of Hearts titles with six but no one has played as many playoff games (39) and tournament games (236) than the Winnipeg-born Jones. In her 18 trips to the Scotties, Jones reigned supreme in 2005, ’08. ’09. ’10, ’15 and ’18. In 2014 at the Sochi Olympic Winter Games, Jones became the first female to skip her rink to an undefeated march to the Gold Medal. She also guided her rink to two World Championship titles.

Her impact in the sport over the past two decades wasn’t overlooked during a TSN poll of broadcasters, reporters and elite-level curlers in which she was selected the greatest Canadian women’s curler of all-time, ahead of legends Sandra Schmirler of Saskatchewan and Colleen Jones, respectively. While Jennifer Jones has departed from team curling, she intends to curl mixed doubles competitively with her husband Brent Laing. Still, her team farewell didn’t come without tears. “I’m going to miss everybody … I love the game … I love being out here,” she said in Calgary. Thank you for the many, many memories, Jennifer!
